5. AMANDA BESL
Enter the wardrobe and close the door. Besl encourages you to contemplate the act of "disappearing completely" through her installation that includes a constructed environment of meticulous graphite drawings.
Amanda is best known for her contemporary surrealist oil paintings which capture intricate still lifes in a candy color palette. An avid gardener, the artist often includes botanical references in her imagery, alongside human hair, deer, swans, and ballerinas. While aesthetically stunning, Amanda’s work often has a haunting undertone, something the she refers to as “beautiful melancholy.”
